Doctor Willis P. McKee Jr. The Wound Care Center & Hyperbaric Medicine at Frankfort Regional Medical Center recently recognized Dr. Willis P. McKee, Jr., retired general surgeon, for his dedication and commitment to the hospital, community and Wound Care Center by renaming it to the “Dr. Willis P. McKee, Jr. Wound Care Center & Hyperbaric Medicine.”

“We are proud to honor Dr. McKee by renaming the Wound Care Center after him,” said Chip Peal, Chief Executive Officer. “It was his vision in bringing this much-needed service to the communities we serve, and a passion of his to help patients with chronic and non-healing wounds.”

Dr. Willis P. McKee, Jr. practiced as a general surgeon at Frankfort Regional Medical Center for over 30 years. He also served in the Kentucky Army National Guard, retiring as a colonel in 1999 after serving in both the Vietnam War and Operation Desert Storm. After a long and successful career as a general surgeon, Dr. McKee retired from his private practice in Frankfort in 2006.

Dr. McKee’s passion for patients with non-healing wounds led the hospital to start an outpatient clinic under his direction – first at the hospital’s Rehab Center, and then on the fourth floor of the hospital. Through the growth of the clinic and the greater need from the community for treatment options, Dr. McKee’s vision became a reality as the hospital opened a new, comprehensive, state-of-the-art facility located in the Frankfort Medical Pavilion in January 2009, where Dr. McKee treated patients and served as medical director until his retirement in 2013.

Frankfort Regional Medical Center recognized Dr. McKee at a medical staff meeting in front of many of his former physician colleagues and hospital staff.
