Frankfort Regional Medical Center will be hosting its second annual “Kid’s Safety Day” on Saturday, June 1 from 9am to 1pm in the back parking lot of the hospital. The hospital will also have a ribbon-cutting ceremony at 10am for the grand opening of its $8.4 million Emergency Department renovation.

The Emergency Department renovation completes an 18-month project that expanded the current space by an additional 2,600 square feet, now totaling over 19,500 square feet. The new space also increased the number of beds from 18 to 28, enclosed in their own individual rooms for greater privacy. Another key feature of the renovation was the addition of a new 64-slice CT scanner, that goes head-to-toe in less than 10 seconds.

“We are excited for both of these events. Kid’s Safety Day is a great way for children and families to learn more about how to stay safe while enjoying many fun activities,” said Chip Peal, the hospital’s Chief Executive Officer. “The completion of the Emergency Department renovation should improve the flow of patients and enable us to serve the growing number of patients who are turning to us for emergency services.”

Kid’s Safety Day is an annual event held in memory of Charlie Semones to increase awareness of child safety issues. The event is free to the public, and the first 300 children in attendance will receive a free bike safety helmet. The event highlights the following:

  • Bike safety (Charlie’s Challenge bike safety course)
  • Child ID Kits
  • Child safety seat checks
  • Pool safety
  • Horse safety
  • Fire safety
  • Gun safety
  • Child abuse
  • Train safety
  • Summertime vehicle dangers

Children are encouraged to bring their bicycles to participate in the bike safety course.
