Frankfort Regional Medical Center recently announced Chad Ahn, MD, and Gina Purcell, RN, as the 2012 “Physician of the Year” and “Nurse of the Year”, respectively, at the hospital’s 9th annual “Nursing Year In Review” held at the Frankfort Country Club. Karen Wooldridge, RN, was named the “Nursing Leader of the Year” and Lisa Scott, RN, was named “Nursing Rookie of the Year”.

The annual Physician and Nurse of the Year awards were developed in 2004 to recognize quality physicians and nurses that demonstrate collaboration, a drive for excellence, charity, and passion for delivering care to patients. Both nursing and medical staff nominates and votes on each of the awards. The Nursing Leader of the Year and Rookie of the Year awards were added in 2009to recognize a member of the nursing leadership team and a nurse less than two years into their nursing career.

“The opportunity to recognize excellence in clinical practice creates a sense of teamwork and cooperation between our physicians and nurses,” said Chip Peal, Chief Executive Officer. “Dr. Ahn, Ms. Purcell, Ms. Wooldridge and Ms. Scott are caring professionals who have served the hospital and our community. We are fortunate to have them as a part of our team.”

Dr. Ahn is a board certified otolaryngologist with Ear, Nose and Throat Specialists in Frankfort. Several phrases and words were used on Dr. Ahn’s nomination forms, including “compassionate with patients; families and staff, collaborative, innovative, professional; pleasant, kind and calm; knowledgeable and personable; provides quality medical care; great communication skills”.

Ms. Purcell serves as a registered nurse in the operating room at the hospital. Some of the comments from Ms. Purcell’s nomination forms stated “Gina is an excellent nurse, hard worker, very responsive, takes her work very seriously and always goes out of her way to make the work flow better.”

Ms. Wooldridge serves as the Associate Chief Nursing Officer for the hospital. Comments used to describe Ms. Wooldridge’s leadership were “leads by example, wonderful mentor and role model; highly respected leader, promotes unity and teamwork; caring towards everyone; always accessible and encouraging.”

Ms. Scott serves as a registered nurse in the Center for Women’s Health. Some of the comments received to describe Ms. Scott were “conscientious, motivated, intelligent; hard worker, team player, quick learner; caring, compassionate nurse with great patient care.”
