Frankfort, KY (January 6, 2009) - Frankfort Regional Medical Center announced today the installation of a new MRI. The hospital recently purchased the MRI, which will be operational later this month. Currently, the hospital is using a mobile MRI unit to perform exams during the installation of the new magnet. With the installation of Siemens Medical Solutions new MAGNETOM' ESSENZA MRI, the new unit provides the power of 1.5 Tesla (T) image quality with more applications and enhanced patient comfort.

"We needed flexibility, accuracy and speed, and found it all in the MAGNETOM ESSENZA from Siemens," said LaMont Coverstone, Director of Diagnostic Imaging. "With the MAGNETOM ESSENZA, Siemens has delivered a system that gives our physicians the clinical information they need to provide our communities with the highest quality of care."

"The new short magnet design will improve patient acceptance, yet magnet strength is maintained for high quality images," said Wesley Roney, M.D., board certified diagnostic radiologist. "Images will also be viewed on the hospitals new PACS [Picture Archiving and Communications System] instead of traditional films."

Due to its 1.5T field strength, the MAGNETOM ESSENZA allows Frankfort Regional Medical Center to deliver outstanding image quality that supports a complete range of clinical applications, including neurology, orthopedics, body imaging, angiography, cardiology, breast imaging, oncology and pediatric imaging.

The revolutionary, TimTM (Total imaging matrix) technology, increases throughput with the combination of up to four matrix coils which makes patient repositioning virtually unnecessary. This advancement results in workflow improvements that can lead to reduced exam times. For example, clinicians at Frankfort Regional Medical Center can now perform a whole central nervous system exam in less than 10 minutes. Additionally, the system's ultra-short bore will alleviate concerns of claustrophobia since many patients can be imaged with their head outside of the bore. Patients can also control the amount of light and air they want inside the unit.
