Frankfort Regional Medical Center received an “A” rating for patient safety from The Leapfrog Group in its most recent report card. The score reflects Frankfort Regional’s overall performance in keeping patients safe from preventable harm.
The Leapfrog Group, a not-for-profit quality organization, graded hospitals on an "A, B, C, D, or F" scale based on 26 measures of hospital safety. Data were drawn from the Leapfrog Hospital Survey, the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services, the Agency for Healthcare Research and Quality, and the American Hospital Association's Annual Survey.
There were 2,618 U.S. hospitals receiving grades - 54 in Kentucky. Frankfort Regional was one of only two hospitals in Central Kentucky to receive an “A,” and one of only 12 in the state. Leapfrog does not grade specialty or pediatric hospitals.
“Receiving an ‘A’ from the Leapfrog Group shows that our physicians and staff are providing an extremely safe environment for patients,” said Chip Peal, Chief Executive Officer. “It places us among the best hospitals in America in this category, and it demonstrates that patient safety isn’t a slogan for us, it’s a commitment we’re delivering on.”
Leapfrog released the first version of the Hospital Safety Scores in June, which relied primarily on 2010 data, and did not distribute "D" or "F" grades to any hospitals, instead noting a "grade pending" for 132 facilities. For its newest list, Leapfrog updated the methodology for a measure linked to computerized physician order entry and for a measure linked to physician staffing in the ICU, which was based primarily on 2011 data.
