Frankfort, KY (October 16, 2009) - Frankfort Regional Medical Center's Laboratory has been awarded accreditation by the Accreditation Committee of the College of American Pathologists (CAP), based on the results of a recent onsite inspection.
The laboratory's director was advised of this national recognition and congratulated for the "excellence of the services being provided." Frankfort Regional Medical Center Laboratory is one of nearly 7,000 CAP-accredited laboratories nationwide.
"We are very proud of this recognition from such a respected medical society," said Michael Graff, M.D., Pathologist and Medical Director of the laboratory. "A commendation such as this further validates the efforts of our outstanding staff in accepting nothing less than excellence."
The CAP Laboratory Accreditation Program, begun in the early 1960s, is recognized by the federal government as being equal to or more stringent than the government's own inspection program. The CAP Laboratory Accreditation Program is an internationally recognized program and the only one of its kind that utilizes teams of practicing laboratory professionals as inspectors. Designed to go well beyond regulatory compliance, the program helps laboratories achieve the highest standards of excellence to positively impact patient care.
During the CAP accreditation process, inspectors examine the laboratory's records and quality control of procedures for the preceding two years. CAP inspectors also examine the entire staff's qualifications, the laboratory's equipment, facilities, safety program and record, as well as the overall management of the laboratory. This stringent inspection program is designed to specifically ensure the highest standard of care for all laboratory patients.
