Frankfort, Ky. — Frankfort Regional Medical Center, part of HCA Healthcare, celebrated the opening of Capital Gastroenterology today, expanding access to colon cancer screening and digestive health services for patients in Frankfort and surrounding communities.
Hospital leaders joined local officials, community partners and community members to mark the opening of the new practice, which offers digestive health services, including colonoscopies and other preventive screenings that can help detect colorectal cancer early, when treatment is most effective.
“Colon cancer can be detected early through routine screening, making it easier to treat,” said Dr. Matthew Miller, gastroenterologist at Frankfort Regional Medical Center. “Many people don’t experience symptoms in the early stages of colon cancer, which is why screening is so important.”
The expanded services make it easier for patients throughout Franklin County and the surrounding region to receive preventive screenings and specialized digestive services without traveling outside their community.
“Expanding access to specialty care is an important part of how we improve more lives in more ways,” said John Ballard, chief executive officer of Frankfort Regional. “When screening is more convenient, more people are likely to get the care they need. An early diagnosis can make all the difference, and we’re proud to provide this important service close to home.”
According to the American Cancer Society, adults at average risk should begin regular colorectal cancer screening at age 45. Individuals with a family history of colorectal cancer or certain medical conditions may need to begin screening earlier.
