A joint replacement is a surgical procedure in which the damaged parts of a joint are removed and replaced with an artificial joint made of metal, plastic or ceramic. The procedures we offer at Frankfort Regional Medical Center include:
Preoperative joint replacement education
Frankfort Regional offers a preoperative patient education course to let patients know what to expect at every step of their joint replacement experience.
During the course, joint replacement patients meet many of the team members responsible for their care, including preoperative and postoperative nurses, case managers, physical therapists, dietitians and orthopedic surgeons.
Created to ease patients' minds about surgery, this covers:
- Basics of how the procedure is performed
- How patients can prepare themselves and their homes before surgery
- Medications
- What to expect while in the hospital
- The importance of rehabilitative care
We aim to help our patients feel more comfortable about their procedure and have the best experience possible.
The course is only available to patients who have already scheduled their joint replacement procedure with an orthopedic surgeon at Frankfort Regional.
