Frankfort, KY (February 3, 2009) - Too many women die each year because they are unaware that heart disease is their No. 1 killer. Right now, one in three women die of cardiovascular disease and 90 percent of women have one or more risk factors for developing heart disease in the future. On February 5, Frankfort Regional Medical Center is encouraging staff, physicians, and visitors to wear red in support of the American Heart Association's Go Red For Women' movement. The hospital will be selling red dress pins for $2 and also accepting donations for tribute cards to benefit the American Heart Association's Go Red for Women campaign.

In addition to Wear Red Day, Frankfort Regional Medical Center is hosting the following events throughout the month of February to raise money for the American Heart Association's Heart Walk:

  • Friday, February 12 - A cookout lunch (hamburgers, hotdogs, etc.) will served in the cafeteria for $5 per person. In addition, "heartgrams" (candy, balloons and cards) will be available for purchase in the hospital lobby from 10:00am - 2:00pm
  • Friday, February 26 - The hospital will be hosting a bake sale in the front lobby from 11:00am - 2:00pm

In addition to raising money for the American Heart Association, the hospital encourages everyone to improve their health. The following free resources are available online:
