Frankfort Regional Medical Center’s Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU) has become affiliated with Kosair Children’s Hospital, home to one of the nation’s largest Level IV NICUs.
“This affiliation has been in place since the opening of our Level II NICU, but we’ve most recently been approved to promote our affiliation through the use of the Kosair Children’s Hospital logo and brand,” says Chip Peal, CEO of Frankfort Regional Medical Center. “Patients can expect to receive the same high-quality level of care as before, but the Kosair Children’s Hospital balloon may be more prominent in our communications regarding our NICU.”
“This partnership helps demonstrate the commitment we have towards our NICU, and to reassure families in our community that they’ll receive the best care possible when they deliver at our hospital. Our NICU’s affiliation with Kosair Children’s Hospital means that patients have access to the same neonatologists that care for newborns at Kosair Children’s Hospital in Louisville, so they don’t need to travel out of the area to receive a top level of care.”
Frankfort Regional Medical Center has contracted with neonatologists at Kosair Children’s Hospital to staff its Level II NICU since the opening in 2008 to provide highly specialized care for high-risk pregnancies and other unexpected problems at birth. Neonatologists - doctors with specialized training in the care of newborns – are on-site around the clock. Together with specially trained nursing staff and ancillary staff, they provide life-saving care and high-tech monitoring until babies are stable on their own. The NICU is equipped to deliver babies as young as 28 weeks, including those with respiratory and feeding difficulties or requiring antibiotic and IV therapy.
