State-of-the-art 3D mammography

Breast cancer affects one in eight women in her lifetime. The two most common risk factors for breast cancer are being a woman and getting older, regardless of family history.

At Frankfort Regional, our imaging services team offers the most advanced 3D mammography equipment available. We are the first facility in Kentucky to offer the Clarity HD high-resolution 3D™ imaging, a system that allows our radiologists to review a 3D image of the breast layer by layer, one slice at a time. It uses low-dose radiation and has comparable radiation doses to a 2D exam.

Our device also includes the SmartCurve™ Breast Stabilization System—a curved compression device that mirrors the shape of the breast, which provides greater comfort for the patient and clearer pictures for the radiologist.

With pain being the number one complaint during mammograms, many women are hesitant to make regular breast imaging appointments a priority. This can increase a woman's chances of breast cancer going undiagnosed or being diagnosed at an advanced stage. With improved comfort, the SmartCurve™ system was designed to address this challenge and provide a better patient experience for women during their mammograms.

Stereotactic breast biopsy

Stereotactic breast biopsy is a technologically advanced tool used for the early detection of breast cancer. This procedure, performed by using the Mammotome Breast Biopsy System, provides women with an alternative to open surgical breast biopsy. Some of the benefits of this type of biopsy include:

  • Available as an outpatient procedure, the entire procedure takes 20 to 30 minutes and women can return to work or normal activities on the same day. It requires only a small incision in the skin, about 1/16 of an inch. No stitches are required and scars, if any, are extremely tiny.
  • An anesthetic can be delivered into the tissue from the tip of the probe to reduce any discomfort. The probe needs to be inserted only once. It can obtain multiple specimens without having to be repeatedly removed or reinserted.
