There are many benefits for the woman and her family in being cared for by a midwife. Most notably, there is less chance of complications and fewer interventions. Certified nurse midwives work individually with each woman and her family to identify their unique physical, social and emotional needs.

You will enjoy the extended time midwives spend with you during labor and delivery. Midwives understand that pregnancy and childbirth involve every part of a woman. Your midwife will help you through your experience in the way most suited for you and will offer a variety of methods for your comfort and progress during labor.

encouragement, massage, relaxation, laboring in water, changing positions and many other approaches to help through labor.

Nurse midwives work collaboratively with physicians and other healthcare professionals. Although they work independently in many areas, consulting with physicians is an important aspect of a nurse midwife's job.
