Frankfort, KY (June 2, 2008) - Based on the NBC reality hit show 'Biggest Loser', the Frankfort Area Chamber of Commerce, in partnership with Forever Communications and Frankfort Regional Medical Center, has created Frankfort's Biggest Loser Challenge in an effort to create a healthier community. According to the Franklin County Health Department, Kentucky is the second most sedentary state in the nation, 38% of the state's population is overweight and 24% is obese.
So, the actual NBC show isn't coming to film in Frankfort, but that shouldn't stop you from getting involved to better your health. Teams of four will compete in the challenge, based on team percentage of weight loss. Registration and initial weigh-in will be held on Thursday, June 5* from 5:00 ' 7:00pm at the hospital.
Registration is $15 per individual or $50 for a team of four. Registration includes four team shirts, bi-weekly email contact, nutrition and workout ideas/suggestions from committee members, workout group sessions and prizes for the winning team.
The Frankfort Chamber has also invited local fitness centers and other health related businesses/organizations to set up tables of information at the initial registration and weigh-in for a health and fitness fair.
Team weigh-ins will be held each month in July and August, with the final weigh-in occurring in September to determine the winning team.
