Frankfort, KY (September 13, 2010) - For the second consecutive year, Frankfort Regional Medical Center has been selected as a recipient of the Alfred P. Sloan Awards for Business Excellence in Workplace Flexibility. The hospital was honored at a recent event by Greater Louisville Inc.

The Alfred P. Sloan Awards for Business Excellence in Workplace Flexibility recognizes employers that are successfully using flexibility as part of an effective workplace strategy to achieve business goals and benefit employees by helping them meet their responsibilities on and off the job.

"Winning this award indicates we're establishing the right kind of environment for our employees, which in turn has direct benefits for our patients," said Chip Peal, Chief Executive Officer. "We'll continue to work as hard for our employees as they work for our patients."

As a recipient of the 2010 Sloan Awards, Frankfort Regional ranks in the top 20% of employers nationally in terms of its programs, policies and culture for creating an effective and flexible workplace.

The selection process is comprised of employer responses measured against national data from Families and Work Institute's National Study of Employers. Employees are then surveyed on their access to flexible work options, the supportiveness of the culture and on nationally tested measures of workplace effectiveness.

Frankfort Regional's innovative workplace practices include self-scheduling, flexible hours, and job sharing for staff members. The hospital aligns the career goals of its employees with its own needs to create a healthy work environment that fosters individual growth and prevents job burn-out. Frankfort Regional also encourages employees to continue their education and to take advantage of a tuition assistance program that pays up to $6,000 per year. The program enlarges the pool of employees who can be promoted to positions of higher pay or more responsibility and offers them greater career flexibility.

The Alfred P. Sloan Awards for Business Excellence in Workplace Flexibility are part of the When Work Works project, an ongoing initiative of Families and Work Institute, the Institute for a Competitive Workforce (an affiliate of the U.S. Chamber of Commerce), and the Twiga Foundation. Through When Work Works, these partner organizations provide research, resources, and recognition to employers nationwide. The project shares the results of research on creating effective and flexible workplaces that meet the needs of the 21st century.
